Dakota Central Scholarship Program

Dakota Central Board of Directors is pleased to announce the eighteenth year of the Dakota Central Scholarship Program, and the fourth year of the Jerry Eissinger Memorial Scholarship. This year Dakota Central will be awarding five $1,000 scholarships, as well as the $500 Jerry Eissinger Memorial Scholarship. That means High School seniors have a chance to be awarded a total of $1,500 in scholarships!

Eligible applicants include graduating seniors whose parent(s) or guardian(s) use telephone, television, or Internet service from Dakota Central. The student must be planning to attend a college, university, vocational, or technical post secondary school. Completed applications are due March 1, 2018.

FRS Scholarship program

The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) offers an annual college scholarship program in which they award 30 one-time $2,500 scholarships to students from rural America for their first year of college, university, or vocational-technical school. Each year Dakota Central will sponsor a student that wishes to apply for the scholarship. The FRS funds $2,000 of each scholarship, and Dakota Central awards the remaining $500.
The application for the FRS College Scholarship Program is available each October for the following year's program. Seniors wishing to apply can pick up an application at Dakota Central or find it on the FRS website, Applications must be postmarked to FRS by March 1st of each year and winners will be announced by May 1st of that year. The FRS application needs to be mailed in for signature by the Dakota Central General Manager.

In addition to this online submission, the student must send to DCT:

  • A printout of your email confirmation with application information.
  • A copy of your high school transcript and a picture.
  • Two personal reference letters: one from a high school official/teacher and one from a community member not related to the applicant.
  • A short essay (300 words or less) telling us how advances in technology have affected your life and what you think the future benefits of technology may be.
  • A photo to be used in the DCT newsletter and annual report should the student be chosen.
